2013 Sangiovese

2013 Sangiovese

$32.00

This limited-production, single-vineyard Sangiovese is one of those exceptional vintages where our higher elevation, cooler climate vineyard made the fruit intense with a balanced acidity. The Sangiovese grapes were carefully de-stemmed and optically sorted to ensure that only perfect fruit made it into the wine. On the palate, the wine is rich and lush, with flavors of dark ripe cherries and freshly baked boysenberry pie. Concentrated vanilla and blueberry build on the finish.

Food Pairings: Our 2013 Sangiovese boasts a beautifully dark, complex flavor that works well with smoky meats and fresh tomatoes. Enjoy a glass of 2013 Sangiovese with a plate of pasta or amuse-bouche with bruschetta and crudités. Pair with any Italian food or your favorite meat on the BBQ grill! Exceptional with Mexican dishes as well.

Viticulture and Winemaking:

Variety: Sangiovese, planted in 1999 in single vineyard block, Italian variety, the main grape grown in Chianti.

Region: Fair Play, El Dorado County, Sierra Foothills

Vintage: 2013

Production: 125 cases

Fermentation: Macerated 7 days on the skins, gently pressed, then allowed to complete primary and secondary fermentation in neutral French Oak barrels. Barrel-aged another 16 months and bottle aged 5 years prior to release.

Winemakers Notes: These vines are trained on a bilateral trellis system, giving a healthy yield year after year. 2013 is richer than 2012 as the berries were much smaller due to drought conditions of the season. Dark cherry, boysenberry, and ripe blueberries dominate the palate. After opening, rich layers of elegant spices and subtle notes of rose water lift to the surface.
