2013 Petite Sirah

2013 Petite Sirah

$33.00

This vintage of Petite Sirah variety dances on the edge of muscular and elegant unlike any other red wine varietal. Dark purple with magenta highlights and a bright ruby rim, this 2013 Petite Sirah boasts intensely aromatic flavors of red cherries, ripe boysenberry, and violets. Flavors of black and red cherries, blackberry jam and red currant create a solid core, complemented by lively acidity and soft tannins. Inky and bold, the Petite Sirah holds a complex texture with a velvety richness.

Food Pairings: Bring out your decanter for this high-tannin wine and select foods rich in fat and flavor for the perfect balance. Rich sauces like mole or curry, as well as, strong cheeses like Swiss and Gouda are great flavors to bring to the table.

Viticulture and Winemaking

Variety: Petite Sirah, planted 1999 in single vineyard block, is a structured, inky wine. A cross between Duriff and Peloursin, this ancient variety of grapes originated in the Middle East.

Region: Fair Play, El Dorado County, Sierra Foothills

Vintage: 2013

Production: 145 cases

Fermentation: The 2013 Petite Sirah grapes were macerated for 7 days on the skins, gently pressed, then allowed to complete primary and secondary fermentation in all neutral French Oak barrels. They were barrel-aged for another 16 months and bottle-aged 6 years prior to release. Our 2013 Petite Sirah won Gold Medal at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition, the largest wine competition in America. It was one of only 3 Gold Medals awarded in a class of over 700 other Petite Sirah’s.

Winemakers Notes: These vines are head-trained and spur pruned, balancing the plant and giving strength to the clusters. This 2 acre vineyard consistently produces one of the top Petite Sirah’s in all of California. 2013 produced a full-bodied, rich and elegantly structured wine due to a drought that limited the size of the berries. Increased intensity of the fruit has with a perfect balance of acid and tannins has made this one of my favorite vintages!
