2016 Petite Sirah RESERVE

2016 Petite Sirah RESERVE

$48.00

Petite Sirah dances on the edge of muscular and elegant unlike any other red wine varietal. Dark purple with magenta highlights and a bright ruby rim, the 2016 Petite Sirah boasts intensely aromatic flavors of red cherries, ripe boysenberry, and violets. Flavors of blueberry and blackberry jam create a solid core, complemented by lively acidity and soft tannins. Built to last and will cellar!

Food Pairings: Bring out your decanter for this bold, pure wine and select foods rich in fat and flavor for the perfect balance. Rich sauces like mole or curry, as well as, strong cheeses like Swiss and Gouda are great flavors to bring to the table.

Viticulture and Winemaking

Variety: Petite Sirah, planted 1999 in single vineyard block, is a structured, inky wine. A cross between Duriff and Peloursin, this ancient variety of grapes originated in the Middle East.

Region: Fair Play, El Dorado County, Sierra Foothills

Vintage: 2016

Production: 45 cases of RESERVE

Fermentation: The 2016 Petite Sirah grapes were macerated for 7 days on the skins, gently pressed, then allowed to complete primary and secondary fermentation in 100% New Nadalie Colbert French Oak barrels. Barrel-aged another 20 months and bottle aged 5 years prior to release.

Winemakers Notes: These vines are head-trained and spur pruned, balancing the plant and giving strength to the clusters. This 2 acre vineyard consistently produces one of the top Petite Sirah’s in all of California. 2016 produced a full-bodied, rich and elegantly structured wine due to a drought that limited the size of the berries. Increased intensity of the fruit has with a perfect balance of acid and tannins has made this one of my favorite vintages!
